STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: First degree in Gender Studies, Policy Studies, International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or other fields relevant to functional area.

Experience: 6 or more years of progressively responsible work experience with at least 2 years in gender related fields.

Language: Fluency (level C) in the English language is compulsory.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Job holders operate with a high degree of independence and manage more junior staff to ensure that programme and policy objectives are achieved in full. They are usually involved in a wide variety of programme and policy activities and analytical work, some of which may be of considerable complexity. At this level job holders are expected to contribute to performance improvement. The Gender Associate will have direct line management at the area office -Maiduguri with technical oversight at the country office-Abuja.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide support to country office activities that effectively meet crisis response and reliance needs as well as address root causes of food and nutrition insecurity at the Area Office level.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Support gender Mainstreaming across various WFP interventions in the area office.
  2. Contribute to the development of a wide variety of projects, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with wider programme policies and guidelines.
  3. Participate and support the implementation of the country office gender mainstreaming activities and events including all meetings, and forums, as needed, to support proper documentation.
  4. Support the CO’s engagement Gender with the other UN agencies, cooperating partners and government partner agencies on gender-related issues at the Area office level.
  5. Support the development and dissemination of gender-related knowledge products.
  6. Prepare briefing notes, talking points, and reports as required.
  7. Other tasks as required.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Experience gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment.
  2. Experience in NGO/INGO engagement.
