Agreement in Faith: How to make it work

Champions Assembly July 2024 (Speakers Note)

Agreement in Faith

Matt 18:19

“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.

Deut 19:15

One witness cannot establish any wrongdoing or sin against a person, whatever that person has done. A fact must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.

The principle of 2 or 3 is laid in the old testament. 2 or 3 are needed to confirm or witness a situation before an action can be taken. This is to prevent errors.

Their testimony needs to agree and by testifying they bind themselves to the consequences that may result.

So we are talking about unity and harmony.

Done in the righteousness of Christ it carries the Father’s backing.

So for this to work some things need to be in place.

1. Common ground of faith and testimony.

2 Cor 6:14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial[b]? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God.

Phil 2:1 Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others

2. Agreement: Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?

3. Trust & Openness. 2 Cor 6:11 We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians, and opened wide our hearts to you. 12 We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. 13 As a fair exchange—I speak as to my children—open wide your hearts also.

4. Support and encouragement. Eccles 4:9-10. Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. 10. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up.

5. Togetherness. Eccl 4:12 Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
